One of the city’s nicest beaches, as well as areas to walk and ride a bike, is located in Kitsilano, or Kits for short. Kits is a well-liked and extremely stylish area of Vancouver. The Kitsilano, or “Kits” beach in Vancouver offers everything an ocean lover might desire. Whether you enjoy water sports, tanning, walking along the beach, or simply putting your toes in the ocean, Kits has you covered. The area’s breathtaking views of the mountains nearby serve as the cherry on top.
Kitsilano is one of the most stunning and great sandy beaches in the area. The city, English Bay, and the North Shore Mountains can all be seen from there. Children like playing on the sand and on the playground; teenagers enjoy a game of beach volleyball, and adults of all ages simply hang out.
A Little Bit More About Kitsilano Beach
In the summer, Kitsilano Beach is a wonderful area to just go swimming, both in the gorgeous and large outdoor pool of the park as well as in the icy cold ocean. The park has a lot of spacious, open grassland areas in addition to the pool and a big, sandy beach. Along with roughly 10 tennis courts and a few basketball courts, there is also a concession stand and the Boathouse Restaurant. The Showboat Stage hosts live entertainment and music in the summertime that is occasionally “community-sourced”. Although the concerts aren’t always very sophisticated, you are free to come and go whenever you like. The entertainment can be excellent at times. Kitsilano Beach has plenty of parking, but due to the area’s popularity, it still fills up on hot summer days.
Now you probably wonder what else Kitsilano has to offer. We present to you a list of activities you could enjoy when visiting this beautiful place.
Swimming in the Pacific Ocean
One of the best things about Kitsilano Beach is swimming in the Pacific Ocean. There are places specifically for swimmers, so you shouldn’t be concerned about bumping into kayaks or boats. The beautiful views of the Vancouver skyline and the local mountains will make your swim unforgettable. On the other hand, if you’re not a fan of the surf, the enclosed Kitsilano Pool is a fantastic alternative to swimming in the ocean. You should know that the water in this pool is as salty as the water in the Pacific but much warmer. Also, the views from the outdoor pool are just as stunning as those from the ocean.

Listen to the yearly Shakespeare Festival at Kitsilano Beach
Every summer, Kitsilano Beach hosts this well-known Shakespeare festival. The largest Shakespeare festival in Canada, Bard on the Beach, is run by artistic director Christopher Gaze. And, it includes plays as well as workshops in the arts and culture. The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, and the Museum of Vancouver are all nearby as well.
A Good Place for all types of sports activities
If you’re an active person, Kits Beach has a wide variety of water activities, including kayaking and water aerobics. Tennis and basketball are other options. Spend a day paddling around Vancouver on a kayak or paddleboard to live like a local. You can always jog, stroll, or ride your bike down the waterfront from Kitsilano Beach to Granville Island, Science World, and even to downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park. You can also travel miles in the opposite direction from Kitsilano, via Point Grey’s equally stunning Jericho, Locarno, and Spanish Banks beaches, and toward the University of British Columbia (UBC).
Enjoy Vancouver’s heritage
A trip to the Vancouver Maritime Museum near Kitsilano Beach is essential, given how closely connected the ocean is to Vancouver’s history and character. The Avenger of the People, a meticulous reproduction of the renowned French vessel, and the Arnold 176 chronometer, which George Vancouver used when exploring the Pacific coast, are two examples of permanent exhibits.
Eat at the Kitsilano Beach restaurant
If you want a table at the Boathouse Restaurant with a view of the water, make a reservation. The house specialties, British Columbian wine, and seafood, taste even better while you’re looking out over the Pacific. For your starter, choose either the smoky yam fries or the deliciously crispy calamari. You must order grilled fish as your main entrée, simply accompanied by potatoes and vegetables.

The Farmers’ Market in Kitsilano
Every Sunday from mid-May to mid-October, 10 am to 2 pm, the Kitsilano Farmers’ Market is in front of the Kitsilano Community Centre at 2690 Larch Street. With up to 50 vendors there on a given week, it’s a sizable market. Kitsilano Beach is around 20 blocks from the market, making it far but manageable by car. Since 2006, the Kitsilano Farmers’ Market has grown significantly. This petite, but fierce market is always crowded. Fresh seafood, artisanal prepared foods, seasonal fruits and vegetables, grass-fed beef, eggs, and dairy products are here. Handmade items, craft liquor, wine, and beer are also for sale. Everywhere you can find trucks with food and coffee. This market is great for families because it’s close to a big playing field and a water park. There’s also entertainment at community tables with live performances and local activities.
